INTRODUCTION Bangor NISC
will be taking advantage of the twinning links between Bangor and
Bregenz in Austria by making the lakeside resort their base for
the Club Trip for the away match in Liechtenstein. This will be
a great opportunity for the Club to strengthen the civic links between
the two towns.
Flights have
been booked and overland journeys planned, and it looks as if there
will be almost 100 Gold Coast fans supporting the Green & White
Army in the beautiful Alpine region next March.
The main party
are flying to Zurich where they will rendezvous with our overseas
brethren flying in from England. Coaches will be provided to transport
the party for the 1½ hour journey to Bregenz which is about
75 miles distant.
Details
of the trip are becoming clearer and the Club are grateful for the
assistance of North Down Council in securing a hotel which can accommodate
all the Bangor NISC travellers under one roof. The latest plan is
that all Club members will have dinner together just after arrival
in Bregenz and this will be included in the accommodation price,
as will breakfast.
BASE
CAMP
The Hotel Messmer
is described as a beautiful hotel situated in the centre of the
"festival" city, Bregenz. You will enjoy the friendly
service and the relaxing surroundings. The hotel is located near
the Lake "Bodensee" and only 5 min walking distance from
the theatre, festival and congress hall, gambling Casino and railway
station.
Rooms have a
bathroom / shower, WC, TV, radio, telephone, mini-bar, and the Hotel
has a sauna, solarium, three restaurants, historic wine bar and
sunny winter-garden
MATCH
DAY
The
details of match day have yet to be sorted as there may be a Civic
Reception in the morning.
As the match against Liechtenstein is likely to have an evening
kick-off, it has been decided that the members should have lunch
in Bregenz and depart for Vaduz in the early afternoon.
Although
Vaduz is less than 35 miles from Bregenz, which is only ¾
hour trip on a coach, it is only a small town. Reports from people
who have been there suggest that there may be a severe shortage
of watering holes and not many places to congregate, unlike the
Town Hall square in Copenhagen !
It is also intended
that the coaches will leave for the return journey back to Bregenz
immediately after the match in order that the members will assist
the entertainment sector of the local economy in our host town.
The
Club will be issuing a travel brochure prior to departure, and this
will include a full itinerary as well as a code of conduct.
