WATCHING THE WORLD CUP
(ON THE BIG SCREEN AT BANGOR TOWN HALL)

On Wednesday, 6 July 2006 , some of the members of Bangor Northern Ireland Supporters Club went along to the grounds of Bangor Town hall to watch the World Cup semi-final between France and Portugal.

The local council had erected a big screen for the big occasion and it was only right that the Bangor NISC flag was on display.

Having tied the flag up the members joined the several hundred people there to enjoy the match.

Whilst a few of the crowd wore the French or Portugal kit, a large number were sporting the Green & White NI shirts, probably gearing up for our next appearance in the next European Championship Final (you can always dream)

Although well organised, the atmosphere was somewhat muted, probably due to a dull match.

However, the Council have to be congratulated for making the effort to organise the event and getting into the spirit of the World Cup. It was also good to see that there were plenty of stewards in attendance and there were many kids soaking up the atmosphere, not doubt practicing to be the Green & White army of tomorrow.

One complaint overheard was that there was no burger van - the GAWA really love their haute cuisine (is that spelt right?).

Anyway, a good evening was had by all.

And just in case anyone is wondering what happened to the flag after the event, it was last seen in the possession of the young man below.
