D Coop Ulster - Friend of the Stars
NICKNAME
:D Coop Ulster

MEMORIES OF FIRST N. IRELAND MATCH :
1987 v England Euro Qualifier at Windsor…We lost 2-0

FAVOURITE MOMENTS AT WINDSOR :
1 - 7/9/05 N.Ireland 1-0 England, will never forget that night.
2 - Dancing round Windsor Park with Silver waving our club flag at half-time.
3 - Being Ball-Boy when the Republic came to Windsor Park in 1988

MEMORIES OF FIRST AWAY TRIP :
Switzerland 2004. Always heard what great fun away trips where and I wasn’t disappointed. Some highlights include…the penalty-kick competition in the grass square in the middle of Zurich against Sam “the cat”…some great songs about cukoo clacks and toblerone and also the unforgettable “bouncy bouncy” on the tram on the way back from the match.

FAVOURITE / WORST AWAY TRIP :
Favourite had to be my first away trip to Switzerland, it was just a great trip from start to finish…..
Worst had to be Austria for many reasons…Firstly i was so ill during the trip with the flu, then when we got to our hotel in Bratislava we found out that our room had actually been booked for the following month…didn’t we Rodney!!!!...so ended up in Silver’s room sleeping on the floor with a towel to cover me…got mistaken for a Russian hooligan and got pinned up against McDonald’s by a Slovak policeman when coming home from the nightclubs in Brat…then the fiasco with the bus driver who left us at the ground in Vienna….7 hrs before kick-off??? and finally the result.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT SUPPORTING N.I. :
Dancing round Windsor Park with Silver and the club flag, especially when he suggested we should go in front of the kop for about the 20th time.

FAVOURITE N.I. GOAL :
Healy’s against England

FAVOURITE N.I. PLAYER OF ALL TIME :
Martin O’Neill…..because he bet me a pound he could do more keepy-uppies than me when I was younger and he lost so he had to pay up.

Gambler O'Neill

FAVOURITE N.I. PLAYER OF CURRENT SQUAD :
Steve Davis…the guy is such a big player for our country already and he’s such a class act to watch…his commitment, desire, work-rate, aggression, passing, vision, awareness and confidence. Hopefully he’ll start to get more goals.

FAVOURITE N.I. MANAGER :
Billy Bingham…what he was able to achieve for our wee country was truly brilliant and for standing his ground when Jack Charlton tried to bully him after the N.Ireland – Republic game at Windsor in 1993

DREAM N.I. TEAM (INCLUDING 3 SUBS) :

1. Pat Jennings
2. Jimmy Nicholl 3. Stuart Mellon (How many caps does he have ?) 4. John McClelland 5. Alan McDonald
6.Steve Davis 7. George Best 8. Norman Whiteside
9. David Healy 10. Gerry Armstrong 11. Michael Hughes.
Subs. Jimmy McIlroy (coz my dad said he was a great player), Iain Dowie ( fans favourite on the pitch…ladies favourite off it…how???), Mal Donaghy

BEST AND WORST N.I. KITS :
Favourite are the recent umbro kits. Ithink there well smart…didn’t like that awful green checkered effect kit from a good few years ago.

FAVOURITE REPLICA SHIRT OR OTHER N.I. MERCHANDISE :
I have to say the club merchandise is excellent.Well done to Andy Smith’s older brother, Rodney!!

THOUGHTS ON THE MAZE :

I want to stay as far away as possible from that place.

YOUR IDEAL N.I. HOME STADIUM :
Central Belfast

IF N.I. DO NOT QUALIFY FOR MAJOR TOURNAMENTS, WHAT OTHER INTERNATIONAL TEAM WOULD YOU SUPPORT:

Whatever team I have my money on.

DO YOU FOLLOW FOOTBALL AT JUNIOR, IRISH LEAGUE OR CROSS-CHANNEL LEVEL ? :
Bangor FC ( Original member of Sargent Flanagan’s Barmy Army ) Crusaders FC ( The Hatchetmen ) and Liverpool FC ( The distance between insanity and genius is measured only by success 18-5..YNWA )

INTEREST IN OTHER SPORTS :
Like most other sports except F1 Motor Racing…if I want to see cars go round and round very fast i’ll nip down Main Street on a Sunday night and watch the boy racers….it’s so boring.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE THE BANGOR N.I.S.C. DEVELOP ? :

More club functions…but I have to say all the committee and member’s must be congratulated for all the hard work they do to make our club a success.

HOPES AND FEARS FOR THE FUTURE OF FOOTBALL IN GENERAL AND N.I. IN PARTICULAR :
The local game needs a major facelift and it needs to get rid of the “old school” people who run the game and get in people with fresh ideas and real vision. I would also like to see the seeding system scrapped which decides groups in qualification and in tournaments for the World Cup and Euro Championships. Let’s have real groups of deaths and real surprise packages qualifying for the finals of major tournaments. In general I think football goes from strength to strength throughout the world proving that football is the biggest and best sport in the world.

FAVORITE PERSON I’VE EVER MET :
Bobby Moore
